About the sock
In 2010, me and a few friends have started to take a hand-knitted, multi-colored sock to science and skepticism conventions and take photos of luminaries with said textile. Here you find some results of this endeavour.
We had the idea spontaneously at TAM London where Cthulhoo finished knitting the first sock of a pair she had promised me for ages. Over lunch I attached two buttons to the sock, and we started to ask speakers if they where happy to pose with the ‘sock puppet’. You will see Cthulhoo in many of the photos, most of which were taken by Zyaama.
There have been a few similar ‘traveling items’ over time, most famously Dave the Skeptical Raisin. At QED, where we took more photos, Helen Playford did the same with a scarf she had knitted for the event, and later auctioned off for the National Autistic Society. You can find the scarf’s story and photos on Helen’s blog.
We will continue to take more photos at events and put them up here for your delectation.
